Claims process FAQ
- Report the details. The quickest way to begin your claim is on usaa.com or on the USAA Mobile App. You can tell us what happened, upload photos, review your coverage, arrange an inspection and get a rental car, if needed, or you can contact us.
- Get an estimate. You'll receive your estimate at the repair shop and online in your USAA Timeline. If you use the photo estimation tool online, you'll receive your estimate within four hours.
- Arrange repairs. During the inspection, you can schedule repairs at a shop of your choice or one of USAA's Streamlined Appraisal Repair Service (STARS) providers. Most USAA STARS shops have an Enterprise Rent-A-Car® location onsite or nearby. USAA will coordinate repairs for STARS shops. You're responsible for coordinating the repair at your shop of choice.
- Pay your deductible. Once the repair is complete, you'll pay your deductible directly to the repair shop. We'll cover the rest. Return the rental car if you had one and pick up your vehicle.
- We'll then close the claim. If you have additional claims or injuries, those claims will remain open.
A car insurance deductible is what you pay to repair your car if you file a claim.
If you have a $500 deductible and the damage is $2,000, you pay $500 and the insurance company pays the remaining $1,500. If another driver hits you and they're at fault, their insurance should pay for your repairs. You won't have to pay your deductible if you file with their company.
If you choose to have USAA handle your claim, you'll have to pay the deductible. After an investigation finds you're not at fault, we'll recover the deductible from the other insurance company for you. If both drivers are found to be at fault, you may have to pay a portion of your deductible.
You can review your policy and deductible on your "Account Summary" page under "My Accounts" on usaa.com or the USAA Mobile App. The type of incident will determine how your coverage or deductible apply.
Your claim will be automatically assigned to a claims representative once you open it.
The representative may reach out for additional information or may process the claim with the information you provided when reporting the incident.
You can contact your adjuster or check your claim status in the claims center on usaa.com or the USAA Mobile App.
A claims representative will only contact you if they need more information to process your claim. If you have questions, you can contact your claims representative and check your claim status online anytime on usaa.com or the USAA Mobile App.
The time it takes to resolve a claim depends on the complexity of the damage and extent of any injuries. Some claims could take a few business days while more complex claims may take several weeks to complete.
