Rental FAQ
In most cases, yes. Your policy offers limited coverage for rental car damage with a few exceptions, such as moving vans or vehicles made available for regular use. For overseas rentals, you can buy coverage directly from the rental company.
If you rent a vehicle through a major credit card, there may be additional coverage. For full details, visit your policy information.
If you have rental reimbursement or transportation expense coverage on your auto insurance policy, you can schedule a rental online.
You're covered for a rental when your vehicle repairs are started or immediately if your vehicle isn't drivable.
If you don't have rental coverage with USAA and you're not at fault for the accident, you can contact the other driver's insurance company.
If the other driver has accepted liability, they can provide a rental to you while your vehicle is being repaired.
To start the reservation process, go to the Claims Status section in the claims center. Use the “Request Now“ link in the Reserve a Rental Vehicle section or use the USAA app on your mobile device. We work with Enterprise as our preferred rental provider.
You can make a rental reservation for the time your vehicle is being repaired. Before making the reservation, be sure that your vehicle has been inspected using one of the several options we provide, like the Direct Repair Program, and have an approved estimate.
If you have rental coverage, it will begin the day your approved repair starts and end when your vehicle is fixed. This coverage can't exceed your policy limits.
If your vehicle is being repaired at a USAA-approved repair facility, this process is automatic. The repair facility will contact USAA directly. The assigned adjuster will then review and approve the additional work, known as a supplement, and extend the reservation.
If the vehicle is repaired at a shop you choose, USAA will have to review and approve the additional work and approve the rental extension. Make sure you've provided Enterprise with the name of the shop, so they can contact your shop for a status update and extend the rental reservation as needed.
