ADVICE

State programs to fortify your home

Some states offer programs or grants to help homeowners fortify their properties against natural disasters.

Find my state

Why consider these state programs?

Preparedness is key to protecting your home, family and future from unexpected disasters. Being proactive can help reduce potential damage and ensure safety. Your state may offer assistance to help update your home. Explore available resources to secure your most valued assets.

Grants

Grants are free money given by government agencies or nonprofits  to help homeowners fund specific projects, such as home fortification.

Catastrophe savings accounts

These are specialized savings accounts designed for homeowners to set aside money for potential future disaster-related expenses.

Tax deductions or credits

These reduce your taxable income or the amount of tax you owe, lowering the cost of fortifying your home against disaster.

Find a state program

Programs can be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis; through lotteries; and via quarterly or annual application cycles. To find local programs, check with your state’s emergency management agency, housing finance agency or department of insurance.
