What’s the Life Events Option rider?

The Life Events Option, or LEO, is a feature included with some of our whole life policies. It lets you buy a separate whole life policy up to your original coverage amount. In total, you can have up to $1 million in coverage.

You can use it when you:

  • Experience a qualifying life event or reach a milestone age.
  • Are under 45.
  • Have an eligible policy with the rider.

What life events qualify?

You qualify if you marry, have or adopt a child, buy a primary home, leave the military, or get a 20% raise. Additionally, this option is available as you reach the milestone ages of 26, 28, 32, 36, 40 and 45.

Do I need another medical exam?

No. Your new premium is based on your current age, but you’ll keep the same health rating you had when you bought the original policy.

Isn’t it included in my policy?

LEO is included in some whole life policies. Once you qualify, you just need to activate it. You can also call a Life Specialist for help.

Other requirements for LEO

While there’s no additional cost to have LEO on your original policy, you’ll pay a premium for the new policy’s coverage. Your new rate is based on your age when you activate it.

Keep in mind that qualifying life events and milestone ages must apply to the insured person even if the policy owner is someone else.

You can use LEO to add coverage up to 6 times. If you use it for a life event, like buying a home, it takes the place of your next milestone age option.

When you use it for a life event, we'll ask for some basic proof, like pay statements or military separation orders, before we issue your new policy.
