Cancel auto insurance FAQ
If you're selling your car, don't cancel until after you’ve sold it. Even if you're not driving the car, you may still be liable for anything that happens to it.
If you're switching insurance companies, wait until your new policy is in effect to avoid a gap in coverage.
In most cases, we’ll send you a refund within 3 to 10 business days unless you have an outstanding balance. We’ll mail you a check or deposit the money in your bank account, depending on your payment method. If you have questions, call us at 800-531-USAA (8722).
Not paying your bill can affect your credit and ability to get other insurance. Your current policy would also have a note saying it lapsed because of nonpayment. As a result, you may pay higher rates if you decide to come back. Plus, you might not qualify for certain discounts.
