Ride with motorcycle coverage.

Motorcycle insurance can help with expenses if you’re in an accident, you need roadside assistance or your bike gets stolen.

Most states require liability coverage for you to register and ride your bike.

Coverage to keep you cruising

Standard coverage comes with all policies. Then you can add on extras to fit your needs.

Standard Coverage

  • Bodily injury liability
  • Property damage liability
  • Genuine manufacturer parts guarantee
  • Small claim forgiveness
  • Accident forgiveness

Optional Add-Ons

  • Accessories coverage
  • Carry-on personal items
  • Comprehensive and collision coverage
  • Enhanced injury protection
  • Medical payments
  • Roadside assistance and trip interruption coverage
  • Total loss coverage
  • Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage

Popular coverage for cruisers

Comprehensive and collision help repair or replace your bike for covered losses.

Add these to your policy and you’ll automatically get $3,000 in accessories coverage. This helps cover the cost to replace upgrades, customizations, equipment and accessories.

If that amount isn’t enough, you can add more.

Popular coverage for tourings

Comprehensive and collision help repair or replace your bike for covered losses.

If you find yourself disabled on the side of the road, roadside assistance can help tow your bike to the nearest repair shop. Add extra protection with trip interruption, which pays for food and lodging up to $500.

You can also get coverage for personal items like your phone, sunglasses and other gear.

Popular coverage for dirt bikes

Collision coverage can help repair or replace your bike in an accident, no matter who’s at fault.

Need extra protection for a bike that’s less than a year old? Total loss coverage can help cover the cost to replace your bike at full retail value, minus your deductible.

Popular coverage for sport bikes

With standard coverage, you get protection for injuries to other riders and damages to other vehicles and property.

Guard your finances even more with enhanced injury protection. This pays up to $250 every week for up to two years if you’re injured in a covered accident and can’t work.

Popular coverage for scooters and mopeds

Standard coverage can protect you from damage you may cause to other people’s property while driving.

Add protection for your moped or scooter with comprehensive and collision. You can also get coverage for personal items like your phone, sunglasses or other gear.

Have an ATV or UTV?

Motorcycle insurance also covers an ATV or UTV.

ATVs use three or four wheels for off-road recreation. Riders straddle the seat and steer with handlebars.

The more powerful UTV steers like a car and has passenger seating. UTVs often help tackle work tasks.

Motorcycle insurance FAQ

The cost depends on many things, including:

  • Riding location
  • Age and experience of all riders
  • Traffic violations
  • Motorcycle accidents and the types of claims
  • Coverage selections
  • Types of motorcycles and how you use them
  • Earned discounts, including a driver’s license motorcycle endorsement, no accident claims or traffic violations, passing a safety course, and insuring multiple vehicles on the same policy

Learn more about the true cost of owning a motorcycle.

It depends. Your injuries may be covered if your motorcycle policy or someone else’s liability protection doesn’t pay for your medical expenses.

But your motorcycle accidents may not be covered if your health insurance company classifies driving a motorcycle as a hazardous activity. Make sure to check with your provider.

Nearly every state requires liability coverage for motorcyclists. A young rider who has a temporary permit may be required to get motorcycle insurance.

Progressive offers motorcycle insurance for riders as young as 16 years old. You can also add a young rider to your policy, so they’ll enjoy the same liability limits.

While buying a new or used motorcycle without a license is legal, you won't be able to take it for a test drive or drive it home once you buy it.

In most states, you’ll need insurance before you can register the motorcycle – and to get insurance, you might need a license.

Also, most insurers will be cautious about insuring an unlicensed rider. Rates may be high, if they're willing to insure you at all.

Ride on with the right motorcycle insurance.
