What’s sports equipment insurance?
Sports equipment insurance is part of what we call Personal Property Plus insurance. It helps protect your home gym equipment, golf gear and other things beyond what a homeowners or renters policy covers. Plus, there’s no deductible.
How it works
You can cover a single item for up to $2,500 or multiple items in a collection for up to $10,000. We call this a blanket policy. If you insure a collection, the policy won’t pay more than $2,500 for a single item.
Blanket policies are easy to get because you don’t have to describe your items or provide proof of ownership up front. See note 1

Sports equipment insurance FAQ
Most homeowners and renters policies cover sports equipment, but there are often limitations.
You may pay a deductible as part of your homeowners or renters policy. For example: If you have a $2,000 elliptical machine and a $3,000 homeowners deductible, you'd have to pay out of pocket to repair or replace it. With a Personal Property Plus policy, there's no deductible.
Personal Property Plus insurance may help cover your gear if you accidentally drop it, break it or lose it. A homeowners or renters policy won't.
Here are some examples of items that aren't covered by a Personal Property Plus sports equipment policy:
- Electronic sports and gaming items
- Everyday eyewear
- Fitness and athletic wear
- Nonstationary bicycles and e-bikes
- Scooters
- Sports memorabilia
It also won’t cover mechanical breakdowns, or damage that’s intentional or caused by normal wear and tear.
If there’s a loss, sports equipment coverage for guns and bows on a blanket Personal Property Plus policy will only pay up to $2,500 per item.
If you want to insure a more expensive firearm, you can get a scheduled Personal Property Plus policy. It helps make sure you have enough coverage.
With a scheduled policy, you’ll need to give us a detailed description of your item and tell us what it would cost to replace it.
High-value guns and bows may need a receipt, an appraisal or other documentation to show proof of ownership and value.
Guard your game with the right coverage.
