What’s deployment and mobilization insurance?

Deployment insurance is one of our Personal Property Plus coverages. It’s available to military members and can help protect your military uniforms and the stuff you have with you.

While you're deployed or mobilized, your things are protected by a blanket policy up to $2,500. A blanket policy is easy to get because you don’t have to describe all your items up front.‍ ‍ See note 1

What’s covered?

Common items we typically cover include things like:

  • Civilian clothes

  • Headphones

  • Laptops, tablets and e-readers

  • Smartphones and satellite phones

  • Jewelry and smartwatches

  • Gaming consoles

  • Sports equipment

  • TVs

  • Guitars and other musical instruments

  • Military uniforms and equipment

  • Knives

  • Books

Types of deployment insurance claims

Deployment insurance could pay to repair or replace your covered items. Here are some examples of claims:‍ ‍ See note 2

Lost or misplaced items

Personal tactical gear like your holsters or night vision goggles get lost in transit.

Liquids

Your smartphone or headphones are ruined by liquids like water, fuel, oil, or hydraulic fluid.

Weather-related events

Thunderstorms cause a power surge that damages your electronics, flooding ruins your guitar or sand clogs the vents of your gaming console.

Why choose USAA Deployment Insurance?

No deductible

That’s right: there really is no deductible. This means you don’t have to pay anything extra when you make a claim.

Filing a claim with Personal Property Plus won't affect your existing USAA Homeowners or USAA Renters insurance cost.

Replacement cost coverage‍ ‍ See note 4

Your policy covers your things at their current value with no depreciation. If your stuff gets damaged, we’ll pay to repair it or replace it with a new item, up to your policy limits.

Is extra coverage during deployment worth it?

If you'd replace your phone, jewelry or other things if they’re lost or damaged, deployment insurance may be a smart move.

This policy doesn’t have a deductible and could be inexpensive compared to the cost of replacing your things.

Deployment insurance FAQ

No. Deployment insurance covers items you take with you. If you leave some of your belongings at home, your renters or homeowners insurance will still protect them.

If you need to file a claim under your deployment insurance, it won't affect the cost of existing policies you have with us, including Personal Property Plus.

You can have a policy while getting ready for deployment, but it only covers losses that happen during deployment.

This policy doesn’t cover:

  • Money and credit cards
  • Personal items left at home
  • Pets and other animals
  • Motorized or electric transportation like e-bikes, scooters or mopeds
  • Losses that happen while you aren’t deployed
