What’s bicycle insurance?
Bicycle insurance is part of what we call Personal Property Plus insurance. It helps protect bikes, e-bikes and accessories beyond what a homeowners or renters policy covers. Plus, there’s no deductible.
How it works
In general, you give us a detailed description of each item and tell us what it would cost to replace it. High-value bicycles or accessories may need a receipt, an appraisal or other documentation to show proof of ownership and value.
You can insure up to 10 bikes. Coverage amounts range from $100 to $15,000 per bike.
What’s covered?
Here are some common bikes and accessories we usually protect:
-
BMX bikes
-
E-bikes, classes 1 to 3
-
Handlebars, lights and mudguards
-
Mountain bikes
-
Nonstationary recumbent bikes
-
Road or track bikes
-
Tandem bikes
-
Tricycles and unicycles
Is insurance for your bicycle worth it?
If you know you'd replace your ride if it's lost, stolen or damaged, bicycle coverage may be a smart move.
This Personal Property Plus policy doesn't have a deductible and is inexpensive compared to the cost of replacing valuable property.

No. Personal Property Plus only covers damage to your bike and accessories.
Homeowners or renters insurance usually offers liability coverage for your bike. So if you’re responsible for injuring someone or damaging property, your policy may help pay for medical expenses or repairs. Some exceptions or conditions may apply. Refer to your policy for details.
You can also get liability protection with a bicycle policy through the USAA Insurance Agency. We work with Markel American Insurance Company to help you customize the coverage that fits your needs.
We’ll need the following details for your bike and any accessories you have:
- Type of bike
- How you’ll use the bike
- Manufacturer's name
- Model year
- Model name or number
- How much coverage you want
- Optional upgrade descriptions for things like seats or handlebars
Cycle with confidence knowing you’re covered.
