USAA Life Insurance Company and USAA Life Insurance Company of New York
What's level term life insurance?
It's coverage that typically lasts from 10 to 30 years. Your payments and coverage remain the same during the term you select when you purchase your policy. Level term life insurance may be the most budget-friendly way to help your loved ones pay for things like your mortgage, kids' education, funeral costs, medical bills and other expenses.
Our coverage provides extra features for military members.
Whether you're on active or Reserve duty, deploying, leaving the service or the spouse of a military member, our level term life insurance policies provide supplemental coverage and features, such as:
-
Expedited coverage if you deploy
Your application goes to the front of the line, so we can make sure your protection is in place before you deploy.
-
Coverage during wartime
If your death is caused by war or an act of terrorism, you'll still be covered.
-
Severe injury benefits
You're covered for $25,000 if you suffer certain severe injuries in the line of duty.
-
Coverage equal to Servicemember's Group Life Insurance, or SGLI
You can add coverage equal to your SGLISee note1 without a medical exam when you separate or retire.

You'll lose your SGLI coverage 120 days after you separate or retire from the military, or two years with a military disability. To maintain life insurance protection, you can convert your SGLI to Veterans' Group Life Insurance, also called VGLI, or purchase your own policy.
Converting to Veterans' Group Life Insurance (VGLI)
Generally, VGLI is valuable if your health prevents you from buying your own policy. If you're in good health, you might be able to find an individual policy at a lower rate.
VGLI premiums are usually higher and increase as you age. You can't insure your spouse or children through VGLI.
Purchasing an Individual Policy
You may qualify for a lower premium if you're in good health. An individual policy can cover your entire family. Many policies guarantee you pay the same premium that won't increase as you age.
If you have USAA Term Life Insurance while you're still serving, it will remain active while you have SGLI. Following your separation or retirement, you can get additional life insurance without having to provide any medical information or undergo a physical exam. You can get up to the amount of SGLI that you had while in the service.
If you decide to purchase a policy, be sure to apply for coverage at least six months before you separate or retire. Don't cancel SGLI or decline VGLI until you've got your new policy in place.
