Renters insurance provides some coverage for your stuff when it’s in storage, up to your policy’s limit. This applies whether you live in the U.S. or overseas. But it won't cover broken items or damage caused by mildew, rodents or insects.
Storage companies may require you to get their coverage.
If you use a professional moving company and a shipping contract, renters insurance may give you coverage if the moving company loses your things.
Your policy may also cover some types of damage, but keep in mind this won't include breaking, marring or scratching caused by the moving company. You may want to consider buying their coverage for added protection.
