The availability and duration of a short-term health insurance plan, as well as your ability to stack plans or renew a short-term plan up to 36 months, depend on policy terms and state law. You must reapply to receive further benefits after your short-term plan expires. Short-term plans provide temporary coverage and are not qualified health plans under the Affordable Care Act.
