Apple Pay® FAQ

General

Apple Pay is a contactless payment technology used to make secure mobile payments with retailers in-store that accept it and can be used for online purchases. You can download Apple Pay from the App Store Opens in a New Window.‍ ‍ See note 1

You can add a USAA Bank Visa® debit or credit card through the USAA Mobile App or the Apple Pay app. But you'll need to add your USAA Bank American Express® credit card through the Apple Pay app.

To add a Visa debit or credit card through the USAA Mobile App:

  • Log on and select the account associated with the card you are adding.
  • Select the Account Summary of the card you want to add.
  • Select "Add to Apple Wallet."

For instructions on adding a USAA Bank Visa debit or credit card or USAA Bank American Express credit card to a device through the Apple Pay app, visit Apple Pay Support Opens in a New Window.‍ ‍ See note 1 If the USAA Bank card you're trying to add isn't accepted, call us at 800-531-USAA (8722).

To make a purchase with Apple Pay in-store:

  • Open the Apple Pay app on your mobile device.
  • Select the card you want to use.
  • Hold the top of your mobile device near the contactless reader to complete your purchase.

You can use Apple Pay in stores or on apps and websites where you find the Apple Pay logo and the Contactless Symbol.

To learn if Apple Pay is compatible with your device, contact your service provider or visit Apple Support.

No. You can only add your USAA Bank Visa debit and credit cards through our mobile app. USAA Bank American Express cardholders, please add your card directly through your Apple Pay app located on your mobile device.

Yes. In addition to Apple Pay, you can use your USAA Bank debit and credit cards with Google Pay® and Samsung Pay®.

Security

When you use Apple Pay, a virtual card number is sent to the merchant for that purchase. This helps to keep your actual USAA Bank card information safe. Before making the purchase, you'll need to unlock your mobile device.

If you see any transaction on your USAA Bank debit or credit card that you don't recognize, call us immediately at 800-531-USAA (8722).

Apple Pay can't be used without unlocking your mobile device. But if you lose your mobile device, you can do one of the following:

  • Lock or erase your Apple Pay account through iCloud Find My iPhone Opens in a New Window.‍ ‍ See note 1
  • Block or delete your USAA Bank cards on usaa.com. Log on and go to your Account Summary for the account you want to block. Select "Manage Devices for Mobile Pay."
