FAQ — American Express® SafeKey®

It helps protect your account when you make online purchases at a participating merchant. When you use your card digitally, your identity may get verified through:

• A push notification from the USAA Mobile App.
• A one-time code by text or email.
• Security questions.

You can choose how you want to be verified. Only after you verify your identity will your transaction go through.

It makes sure that your card isn't being used online by the wrong person. Asking you to enter a code, answer security questions or use a push notification from the USAA Mobile App is similar to how you enter your PIN at an ATM. Your purchase will be approved only after you verify your identity. So even if someone knows your card number, they won't be able to use your account.
