Computer recognition allows you to associate a computer or mobile device with your Online ID. When you do so, you tell us which computers or mobile devices we should trust when you use them to access your USAA account. This adds an additional layer of security if someone using an unregistered computer tries to access your account.
Yes. You'll just need to answer some questions to verify your identity.
You can register desktop computers, laptops and mobile devices. If you use multiple browsers on a single device, you may need to register the device using each browser. Also, if multiple members use the same computer, each one will need to register the computer separately. You should not register any devices that are available for public use.
Registering a device is an additional security measure to prevent unauthorized persons from accessing your account.
Standard security level asks for your Online ID, password, personal identification number (PIN) and a security question each time you log on from an unregistered device. Enhanced security level asks for your Online ID, password and PIN. We will also send you a temporary passcode by e-mail or text message each time you enter your PIN from an unregistered device. When prompted, enter the temporary passcode to access your account information. Your carrier's standard text messaging rates may apply.
If you don't have a text messaging plan, your phone carrier may charge you per message at its standard text messaging rate. Keep in mind we cannot send mobile text messages to certain carriers or international numbers. Consider using the e-mail message option of enhanced security.
A temporary passcode is a randomly generated code that we send to you by e-mail or text message when you enter your PIN from an unregistered computer. After one use, the code is no longer valid.
You can register your computer or device from the Manage Security page by editing your preferences in the Computer Recognition section.
Yes. You may unregister a device at any time. However, doing so will unregister all your devices. You can re-register the desired devices at any time.
If you deleted the cache, cookies or history logs on your browser, we won't recognize your device. You'll need to re-register it. Also, if you use a new browser, you'll need to register the same device under the new browser.
Use another computer to log on to usaa.com. Go to the "Manage Security" page to unregister all devices and then re-register any devices you want us to continue to recognize.
