Using your USAA Homeowners Insurance FAQ

To find your homeowners declarations page:

  • Go to My Documents.
  • Select “Insurance.”
  • Select your most recent homeowners policy.

Go to your homeowners account summary. Select “Get proof of insurance.”

It helps protect you if you're responsible for someone's injuries or property damage — even away from home. It may also cover legal costs if someone sues you. Review your coverage.

Your liability coverage should equal the value of your net worth, or the total of your assets minus liabilities. If your net worth is higher than the maximum coverage allowed, consider purchasing umbrella insurance.

You can remove your mortgage company from your policy by selecting "Update Mortgage" on your homeowners account summary.

If you’d been paying your homeowners insurance through your escrow account, you’ll now receive that bill directly from USAA.

Your coverage may be limited if your property is unoccupied or vacant. If it is, please contact us.

If you decide to rent your property out on a regular and recurring basis, you’ll need to change your policy to a landlord insurance policy, also called rental property insurance.

If you have another active USAA policy for your primary residence, you can cancel your homeowners insurance on usaa.com from your homeowners account summary.

Discounts and savings

There are many ways to potentially reduce your premium. We have savings for bundling policies,‍ ‍ See note 2 having a home security system‍ ‍ See note 3 and being claims free for five years or more.‍ ‍ See note 4

You may also increase your deductibles to reduce your premium. Be sure to set aside enough in your emergency fund to cover your deductibles.

You can also take the following steps to help prevent losses:

  • Lock all doors and windows and use a security system when away from the home. 
  • Trim trees so they don’t grow over the roof. 
  • Turn off your water when leaving home for an extended period of time.

If the item goes faster than 15 mph by design or modification and it’s designed for use on public roads, it won’t be covered by your USAA Homeowners policy.
