North Carolina residency verification

We need you to send us proof you live there before we can issue your auto policy.

Proof of residency options

Send us one of these documents:

  • A valid military ID
  • A valid, unexpired North Carolina driver's license with your name and current North Carolina address
  • A homeowners or renters declarations page with your current North Carolina address
  • A valid North Carolina vehicle registration with your name on it
  • A copy of a utility bill
  • A receipt for personal property taxes you paid in the last 12 months
  • A receipt for real property taxes you paid to a North Carolina locality in the last 12 months
  • A copy of your most recent federal income tax return
  • A copy of a valid student ID for a North Carolina school or university

If you don’t have your document handy, here’s how you can send it to us later:

  • Log on to the USAA Mobile App. From your profile menu, select "Send Documents to USAA."
  • Log on to usaa.com. From your profile, go to “Documents,” then select "Send Documents to USAA" at the top.

What happens next?

We’ll review your proof of residency and send you a message in your saved quotes when we verify it. After that, it might take us up to 3 days to issue your policy.
